The beginning of the year is a wonderful time. It feels like we start with a clean slate, as if we are different people than we were in December. This is why it is so common to make New Year’s resolutions. Unfortunately, they rarely last, at least not when they are born out of guilt over the holiday excesses and self-hatred. But what if your resolution was to love yourself better in 2021?
Here are 3 simple and proven ways to get you in the habit of thinking of yourself with love. Practice them as often as you can, and you will have a bit more room to breathe in 2021. The world is full of challenges anyway, why hurt ourselves on top?
Regularly stop to appreciate yourself
Build it into your daily routine to stop and think of at least 3 things you really, really like about yourself. If you keep a journal, write it down and save it for a day when you need a pick-up. Every little thing counts: how people can always come to you for advice, how patient you are with your puppy, or how you give your best at your job or the community.
This exercise has the added benefit that most things you appreciate will have nothing to do with your body, and everything to do with who you really are: a kind, caring, wise, radiant spirit.
